Our History

A and B Mowing and More Original Business Card
Bryan in Tractor for Middlebury Parade

When I was 10 years old my brother and I took the wheels off of our dad's push mower (that had high wheels) and installed them on a homemade trailer made out of 2x4's, $1 worth of 8-penny nails from the Middlebury Big C Lumber, a piece of threaded rod for the axle, and some plywood that was lying around. We found some white paint and mailbox letters and painted the trailer and put a sign on the side of it that said A & B Mowing and More.  Then we fastened it to the back of our bicycle and pulled a Honda Harmony push mower in the trailer to go mow lawns in downtown Middlebury.

At this time we didn't have a string trimmer or a blower and some of our customers let us use theirs on their lawns. Eventually we found a Murray 38" riding lawn tractor for sale for $350 that we purchased from an individual who allowed us to make payments of $50 a week until it was paid for. Then we converted the tongue of our homemade trailer so that we could pull it with the new tractor.  Then when we would mow at a customer we would unhook and use our riding lawn tractor and our push mower.

By the age of 14 we were able to purchase a nicer used John Deere 212 42" riding mower and we acquired an old tilt deck snowmobile trailer that we pulled around with the John Deere.  Eventually we moved outside of town and would have people pull our trailer with our mowing equipment into town so that we could mow our customers' lawns.

Once I got my drivers license I purchased an 89 Ford Ranger with a manual transmission and was able to buy a 14' single axle trailer with a ramp to pull behind my truck along with several pieces of equipment that we had acquired by this time to mow lawns. During this time the mowing business was a part time thing that I did after school and after my regular job.

By the age of 19 I had moved out of my parents house into my own apartment and got married to Kaitlyn; within the next year we had purchased our first home and I had taken the business full time. Since then we have grown the business to include snow plowing, lawn maintenance, excavation, and dump truck hauling; and have gone from working mainly by myself to employing several employees.
